My Farmhouse Style Real Food Basket

I’ve wanted to blog about simple living for quite a while now but with the start of my Oahu furniture refinishing business, moving to Hawaii and switching over from the military spouse blogging community I haven’t had time to do so.  With that said, I know that I love gathering ideas for simple living, for boundaries and for intentionally focusing on faith and family.  If you work for yourself or if you have a job that you take home with you, you know how hard it is to put up boundaries between work and family.

Today I want to share my kitchen food wire basket idea.

Now that we’ve gone gluten-free, we are eating a lot more fresh fruit and vegetables.  I cook almost every night and use garlic and onions (and avocados) at least three times a week when cooking.

I found this wire basket at T.J. Maxx for under $20.  All I did to make this food basket was place a vintage white colored kitchen towel at the bottom.  Just make sure to check the veggies once and a while to make sure they are still fresh and rotate the old ones with the new ones.

Each week, I fill the basket with fresh vegetables that I use to cook dinner.  It’s so nice and convenient to just grab and onion and some garlic right from the counter.  Plus I have more room in my refrigerator.

I also look how it gives the kitchen a fresh, farmhouse feel.

  1. Thank you for hosting! I love the idea of the food basket.

  2. Jason and I started reading this book called “Living in Focus” by Arthur Boers, that I think would be right up your alley re: simplicity

  3. What a great idea with the basket!

  4. I have a basket of veggies in my pantry and my potatoes kept sprouting after only a few days. I finally went online and determined that onions and potatoes should not be stored together. (The reason was something science-y that the two components blended to speed the ripening process.)

Anyway…I love your idea! Fresh fruits and veggies bring an instant facelift to a kitchen. I just wanted to share in case you found yourself in the same situation.
