Ugly Work Desk Makeover – Meet Eleanor

February 12, 2013

I recently did a huge make-over of my “studio” aka patio (to see the complete studio makeover, visit this blog post).  The main attraction of my makeover was my work desk that I use to prop up furniture while I paint so I don’t have to bend over.  The work desk was a $20 Craigslist find and named “the Behemoth” because of how ugly, heavy and unwieldy it was.  The top was totally ruined from me painting on it and I honestly had no hope of this desk turning into something nice.  I planned on just leaving it be.desk-before-and-after-dear-olympia

Then I suddenly decided to go ahead and give refinishing it a try.  I used one coat of CeCe Caldwell’s Simply White, distressed it with a wet rag and waxed it using the clear wax.  It only took about 45 minutes to do all of it!

The hardware was a typical boring metallic color and I changed it up with Antique Gold Rub ‘n Buff.

I distressed the desk more heavily than I usually do because I wanted her to have a distressed, yet stately look.

I call her “her” because with her makeover, she’s earned a new name – Eleanor.

It’s a strong, stately name for a strong, stately workhorse!

Here is a picture of Eleanor doing what Eleanor does best, that is protecting my lower back!

Staining and Painting an Antique Chest of Drawers in Lichen Mix

June 20, 2017

Today I'm featuring a thrift store chest of drawers that my sister-in-law and I found.  I thought I'd have to paint the whole thing because of damage to the veneer. But alas, while sanding some goop off of the top, I realized that the veneer underneath was perfectly fine and sanded the whole thing.  I decided to stain the top in Cappuccino Stain Oil, the perfect rich brown.

I recently freshen up my farmhouse style dining room table in Fusion Mineral Paint's Picket Fence and did a custom mix of Lichen and Picket Fence on my Buffet.

All of the furniture pieces with the exception of the industrial shelving unit are used pieces that I've re-homed and painted with Fusion Mineral Paint.

Brick Fireplace Makeover in White
Brick Fireplace Makeover in White

I just repainted our brick fireplace using Fusion Mineral Paint. I still need to do a few more coats of black paint on the 90's gold but I'm loving it so far! First I dry brushed on a coat of Lamp White but it looked too cool in tone so I dry brushed on my go-to off white, Champlain on about half of the bricks to warm it up.
