How to Avoid Brush Stokes with Fusion Mineral Paint

One of our most frequently asked questions is how to avoid brush strokes. Here are some great ideas for minimizing brush strokes from Fusion owner Jennilyn, plus check out the video at the end to see her tips in action!
  1. If you can see brush strokes there is too much paint on your brush and quite possibly too much pressure being applied with your brush.
  2. You should also try using a fine quality brush with a synthetic bristle - fine quality is key.  The Staalmeester Fusion collection of brushes have natural and synthetic bristles, ideal for Fusion paint.
  3. Try using a paint roller to get a super smooth finish. Always use micro fiber rollers, never foam. Rollers may leave some stippling effect but the effect is still quite smooth.
  4. Work on your technique, try less paint, try more paint, apply less pressure, apply more and you will see an immediate difference in the results. Practice makes perfect. Buy a cheap used cabinet door to practice on from a Habitat from Humanity store and practice on it.
  5. Don’t over work it meaning once you have applied the paint and gone back and forth once or twice stop. The paint dries almost immediately when exposed to air and the water starts to evaporate from the paint.  Once the paint starts to dry, if you brush back after a minute or so, you will start to create texture and brush strokes. Work with your products, don’t over work it.
  6. The more you work with it and refine your handwork the more refined it becomes. Remember when you hand paint something, part of the charm is a few brush strokes here and there. It is hand painted after all isn’t it? Be proud of your work!
